How to create amazing pages for every podcast episode

Podpage lets you include a LOT of incredible content on your podcast website's episode pages.

Every time you release a new episode, Podpage will create a new, search engine optimized page on your website specifically for that episode. We import your title, show notes, other meta data, but that's only the beginning. There's a lot more you can add to make your episode pages amazing. In this quick post, we'll cover:

  • Smart URLs
  • Episode Images
  • Media Players
  • Videos
  • Transcripts
  • Extended Show Notes
  • Guest Profiles
  • Comment Boards

Smart URLs

When your episode is imported, we will create a human readable URL so listeners and Google can find it (example: yourdomain.com/my-oprah-interview). You can edit that to be whatever you want. Additionally, we will create a quicklink using the episode number, so if you want to link to episode 45, you can tell your audience to go to yourdomain.com/45. Add these links as the Episode Permalink to your podcast host so these are the links included in your podcast feed.

Episode Image

We'll import your episode image from your feed if you've uploaded one to your host service. (for Libsyn, make sure the "Use Show images for Episodes" setting is unchecked). But if your host doesn't support episode images, or you want to upload a different size/shape for your websites, just go to your episode editor in Podpage and upload a different one.

Media Player

As long as you're using one of the major podcast hosts, your media player will be imported automatically and added to your Episode page. That's right, if you're a Buzzsprout user, you'll see your official Buzzsprout player on your website. It's import to us to not get in between your listeners and your stats, so we do no tracking of any kind on plays.

If your host doesn't provide a player, or you want to use a different one, just go to Custom Media Player on the episode edit page to add whatever embeddable player you'd like!

Videos

Want to include a video on your episode pages? That's easy. You can follow this guide to add a large video playback area for your episode right at the top of your page, or add one in your show notes.

Transcripts

For hearing impaired members of your audience, adding a transcript to your page is a great way to make the content more accessible. Additionally, the written content will help Google understand what this episode is all about, and can be great for search engine optimization. We'll import your transcript for you if it's part of your feed, but if not, go to the Transcript section of your episode editor to add info.

Extended Show Notes

Show notes can be a lot more than just text and links! After we import your show notes, you can add whatever you want to them. Add widgets, images, or any other additional context to give your audience a better experience when looking at your episode. Go into your episode editor and edit the Show Notes section.

Guest Profiles

If your podcast has a guest interview format, then it's a great idea to add an actual profile for every guest directly to your website. Not only does this add a nice, structured data area to the bottom of your site, but it also creates a dedicated page on your website for the guest, adding more content for Google to index for you. Commenting

Let your listeners leave you feedback about your episode DIRECTLY on your episode page. It's a great way to not only get feedback about your episode, but also let your audience talk to each other and build a community. Just follow the instructions here to learn more about adding comments to your page.
